Polytechnics are institutes that offer a large number of professional courses in technical and non-technical subjects. The successful completion of a course from a polytechnic leads to award of a Diploma in the particular subject. A Diploma in Engineering from a recognized polytechnic is recognized by all the recognized universities in India for admission to first degree courses in Engineering and technology.
A Diploma course from a polytechnic spans a duration of three years. However, several Tool Room Centres established in collaboration with Germany and Denmark offers four year Diploma in Tool and Dye Making. For a candidate to be eligible for a Diploma course from a Polytechnic college, he or she needs to pass the Class 10 Exam. Apart from that, most of the states have separate entrance exams for admission to Polytechnic colleges in that particular state.
All the top Polytechnic colleges in India offer Diploma in engineering courses. For example, Bhadrak Institute of Engineering and Technology offers 3 year Diploma programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The fees for these particular courses can be obtained only by request.
Similarly, Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Jawaharlal Institute of Technology in Pune also offers three year Diploma courses in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, Computer Technology, Information technology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production engineering and Chemical Engineering.
The Oxford Polytechnic in Bangalore which offers Engineering Diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Computer science, Electronics and Communication and Information Science has tuition fees amounting to Rs. 8300 per year for Karnataka students and Rs. 12800 per year for non-Karnataka students.
